Therefore, when the night falls, the teams that are rowing will have to look for a place in the border to plant their camping and to rest until the dawn.
After arriving at the ski resort of La Pinilla in the evening and during the night and yesterday completing the obligatory rest of 4 hours established by the organization, the teams faced one quite long section of trekking of 12 hours of duration. Those 46 km and 1,730 ms of ascent drop took to them from the station of La Pinilla to level 1,800 of the station, where they had to make a special test of ropes, that consisted of one tyroline and a passage by a tibetan bridge. Thence they raised until the top of the mountain range and they went by the edge until the Tierra de Ayllón, where they had to find a marker within a cave and to lower by a cannon until the neighborhoods of the town of Grado del Pico, where they cycled again.
A ultrafast section of MTB
That section of bikes had to take them from there to the Vadocondes, to the shore of the Duero river. They were little more than 100 km of distance and 1,130 ms of drop, that the first teams crossed in a time record of 7 hours, one hour faster of the best time anticipated by the organization.
In Vadocondes, they kayaks were waiting for them that, thence they have to take rowing until Peñafiel, in a long sector of 64 km and 11 hours of duration. Too long to finish before 21h, maximum schedule allowed by the organization to continue rowing, questions of security. | » 14th May 2008 >>> Wisla HellyHansen takes advantage in head |
The French team stands out in the first position taking advantage of one long night of bike and fog. Multisport.fi and Lafuma Sport2000 Vibram fight now by the other two positions of podium. Four teams leave the race.
La Pinilla (Segovia), 14 of May - The raid Bimbache Extrem Castilla and Leon 2008 clarify the first positions, after half and a day of uninterrupted competition. The French team of the Wisla HellyHansen has remained in solitaire at the top of a race that has left four of the teams that took the start: Proinde Aventura, Air France Industries, Buff and Gallaecia Bugarent-Cucos. Both first of these team left the race before initiating the section of kayak in the dam of the Alto Pontón, although the French team has decided to continue outside competition, skipping a pair of sectors, to enjoy the places by which the raid passes throug.
The first night of race was little than less infernal for the fifteen participant teams. The cold intensified during the nocturnal hours, and one thick fog covered the top of the Mountain range of Guadarrama, by where the competitors in one long section of mountain bike of 97 km of distance and 2,250 ms of positive drop had to do. Those adverse meteorological conditions made difficult the orienteering of the teams, who was in zones with a visibility less than five meters, motivated the abandonment of Gallaecia and Buff, that also had injuries in some of their members. The bike section, in addition, was able to distance to the Wisla HellyHansen of the Multisport.fi, that until then had been competing at an even level in first position.
Cloudy morning and rainy day
The first lights of a cloudy morning has taken to the front teams until the locality of Somosierra, where they changed the bikes by the slippers to face a section of trekking of 15 km by Sierra Cebollera that included the spectacular canyonering. Rains fallen during the last days have significantly increased the volume of this cannon, offering some of the most spectacular images of this hard test of adventure sports in flown rappel by the interior of an impetuous waterfall. That trekking has confirmed the tendency of the increase of the advantage of the Wilsa HellyHansen on the Multisport.fi, that has been seen even surpassed by the equipment Lafuma Sport2000 Vibram, also of French nationality. Another team that also wasted time in this point was the Teva-La Pinilla-Trangoworld, that was in the fourth seat but without options to fight by podium if some important error of those ahead teams.
After the canyonering, the teams had to return to Somosierra and to get on bike to go again to the town of Riaza, where they take the in line skates to make 9 km that separate this population of the ski resort of La Pinilla skating. Once arrived at La Pinilla, the organization forced all the teams to make a shutdown of 4 hours to rest, a measure that tries to guarantee a minimum security for competitors who accumulate at those moments 30 hours of uninterrupted race (the first one classified). It is possible to say that that rest was made in the new shelter of La Pinilla, an installation with all the comforts and ideal to get one's strength back
After the rest, the teams had to face to another long section that surely will take all the night to them to first, or good part of the next day to the most left behind. It’s a trekking of 46 km of distance and 1,730 ms of positive drop, with a spectacular technical fixe ropes and tibetan bridge, in the high zone of the station of La Pinilla. This long walk borders the limits of the Natural Park of the Hayedo de Tejera Negra and it go deeper into the zone of Ayllón. There, before returning to get the bikes in the spring of the Manadero, they will have to make another special discipline, in this case of speleology.
